Artist’s Comment: Riding horses engages all our senses. The smell of horse sweat, leather, the sound of the saddle creak, the blow of air through a horses nostrils, the clop of the hoofs on various surfaces, Watching the horses ears as it’s attention is diverted by a noise. But, only the most avid cowboy will know that a honda (or hondo) is a metal, rope, or rawhide ring, through which a rope slides to make a loop. The title of this painting, “The Green Honda” is intended to cause the viewer to see beyond the beautiful image and experience the thrill of a cowboy’s life of riding and roping.
